Make this easy, fruity Christmas Sangria for your holiday gathering. This recipe uses red wine, seasonal fruits like apples and oranges, and warming spices for a refreshing party drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 large apple (like Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda (added before serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and simple syrup in a large pitcher. Stir well to mix the liquids.
  2. Add the sliced orange, apple slices, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves to the pitcher.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the fruit flavors to infuse the wine. This make-ahead step improves the taste.
  4. Before serving this crowd pleasing holiday cocktail, remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves if desired.
  5. Gently stir in the sparkling water or club soda.
  6. Serve the Christmas sangria over ice in wine glasses, making sure each glass gets some of the festive fruit.

Notes

  • For a White Christmas Sangria variation, substitute the red wine with a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio and use white cranberry juice instead of whole cranberries.
  • If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the simple syrup amount or omit it entirely.
  • This is a great holiday gathering drink that scales up easily for large parties.
