Make restaurant-quality creamy garlic chicken right in your skillet. This easy weeknight chicken dinner features juicy pan-seared chicken breasts coated in a rich, velvety garlic Parmesan cream sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts evenly with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Sear the chicken breasts for 5 to 7 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the broth simmer and reduce slightly for 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and Dijon mustard. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and thickened. Taste and adjust salt and pepper if needed. This creates your velvety garlic sauce.
  8. Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the creamy garlic sauce over them. Let them warm through for 1 to 2 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving immediately over pasta, rice, or with roasted vegetables for a complete comfort food dinner idea.

Notes

  • For a low carb chicken skillet option, skip serving with pasta and serve with steamed broccoli or cauliflower mash instead.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, let the cream simmer uncovered for an extra 3 to 5 minutes before adding the chicken back.
  • You can use chicken thighs instead of breasts for a richer flavor. Adjust cooking time as needed.
